Field notes Solitary understory palm, 150 cm tall. Stem 65 cm from base to lowermost leaf. Diam. at base 1.2 cm; diam. below lowermost leaf 0.7 cm. No. of internodes:18. Basalmost 2.8 cm, apicalmost 3.8 cm. Brown to greenish brown. Nodes clearly visible. The stem has a bamboo-like apereance. No. of leaves 6 + 1 juvenile. Leafsheet 23 cm, encirkling the stem for 3 cm. Leafsheeet green with brown pubescens, margins brown, cartageous. Petiole 17 cm, straight - concave on cross section, 0.3 X 0.4 cm. Green, furrowed. Rachis 29.5 cm, triangular, green, furrowed and with brown pubescens on the abaxial side. No. of pinnae: 2 X 3, opposite, the opposite ones being alike. Adaxial side green, glabarous with prominent veines. Abaxial side green with brown pubescens on the veines. No. of inflorescences: 2 old and 1 juvenile. The juvenile one inserted, one note above the lowermost leaf. The old ones inserted one and 3 nodes below lowermost leaf. Base of inflorescence encirkling 4/5 of the stem. Prophyll clecicleous, 4 scalelike bracts. Peduncle: 5.5 cm long, ovate, 0.4 X 0.7 cm in cross- section below rachillae, red and rough. No. of rachillae: 1, 14 cm long. No. of flowers: about 120, regulary distributed. Fruits elipsoide, 0.4 X 0.7 cm. According to Maximiliano Cox, Nueva Rockofuerta, the leaves can be used for thatch.
