| Field notes | In the area around were many individuals of this species left. The trees were often found along streams. Tree 22 m tall, diameter 28 cm. Wood is hard, white in the sap and black in the heart. Young branches and rachises with four longitudinal furrows. Leaves are in a modular phyllotaxy (clustered seven to nine together). One leafbud encloses seven to nine leaves. Leaves have 9-12 pairs of leaflets per leaf. The stipules are filamentous and caducous. The inflorescences are terminally inserted, ball-shaped, 10-15 cm in diameter, and have 40 flowers per inflorescence (is counted in one inflorescense). The bracts (caducous), bracteoles, sepals, petals, and anthers are bright red. The stamens are white at bases and red at apices. Nectar is secreted from unstructural nectaries from the hypanthium.
