| Field notes | In the area around were many individuals of this species left in pastures. The trees were often found along streams. Tree 10 m tall, diameter 20 cm. Wood is hard, white in the sap and black in the heart. Young branches and rachises with four longitudinal furrows. Leaves are in a modular phyllotaxy (clustered nine to 10 together). One leafbud encloses nine to ten leaves. Leaves have 14-17 pairs of leaflets per leaf. The stipules are filamentous and caducous. The inflorescences are terminally inserted, ball-shaped, 22-24 cm in diameter, and have 119 flowers per inflorescence (is counted in one inflorescense). The bracts (caducous), bracteoles, sepals, petals, and anthers are bright red. The stamens are white at bases and red at apices. Nectar is secreted from unstructural nectaries from the hypanthium. Local name: Clavellíno. Uses: Trees of this species is left in pastures for future sale as timber. The carpenter in La Abundancía uses the wood for furniture.
