Field notes Tree 12 m. Young parts of branches and rachises have four longitudinal furrows. Phyllotaxy is distichous and modular. Leaves are clustered few to 10 together. Stipules are filamentous and caducous. Leaves have 10-17 pairs of leaflets per leaf. The inflorescences are ball-shaped, 20-22 cm in diameter, and terminally inserted, with 107 flowers per inflorescence (flowers in one inflorescence is counted). Bracts (caducous), bracteoles, sepals, and petals are bright red. Stamens are white at bases and red at apices. Anthers are red. Nectar is secreted from the hypanthium from unstructural nectaries.
