| Field notes | Tree, 17 m tall (the forest around is dominated by this species, most individuals are flowerless, but have new leaves). Branching is modular. Leaves are in a distichous phyllotaxy, are modular (few to 10 leaves together), and at maturity in a more or less horisontal position. One leafbud encloses few to 10 leaves. Leaves have 10-13 pairs of leaflets per leaf. Inflorescences are terminally inserted, have diameters to 25 cm, c. 67 flowers per inflorescence. Bracts, bracteoles, sepals, and petals are bright red. Stamens are white at base and red at apices. Nectar is secreted from the bottom of the hypanthium. Additional material in AAU: Flowers in alcohol, pods, seedlings. |
