| Field notes | Tree, 10 m tall, diameter 20 cm. Leaves clustered terminally on branches. They are in a distichous phyllotaxy, and appear in one horizontal plane. The stipules are filamentous and caducous. Leaves have 8-10 pairs of leaflets. The inflorescences are cauliflorous to the ground, with c. 50 flowers per inflorescence. The inflorescencebud is ball-shaped, the bracts caducous. All parts of one flower are cream-coloured. Nectar is secreted from the hypanthium. To 7 pods develop per inflorescence. Uses: The wood is very hard, and is used by the Colorados as timber (information from C.H. Dodson). Additional material in AAU: Inflorescence bud and flowers in alcohol, pods, and seedlings. |
