| Field notes | Slender tree, 5 m high. Wood is white in the sap and black in the heart. Young branches and leaves have four longitudinal furrows, mature are more or less terete. Leaves have 9-13 pairs of leaflets per leaf, stipules are filamentous, and early caducous. Inflorescences are terminally inserted on branches, with 40-60 flowers per inflorescence. Bracteoles and anthers are orange or yellow. Bracts, sepals, petals, and apices of stamens are brigth red. Additional material (flowers in alcohol, wood) in AAU. Local name: Cruz caspi (quichua) |
