| Field notes | Slender tree, 6 m high, diameter 10 cm. Young branches and rachises with four longitudinal furrows, mature more or less terete. Leaves are modular (clustered few to c. 10 together) and in a distichous phyllotaxy. Leaves have 6-16 pairs of leaflets per leaf, stipules are filamentous and early caducous. Inflorescences are inserted terminally on branches, with 40-60 flowers per inflorescence. Nectar is secreted from the bottom of the hypanthium. Bracteoles and anthers are yellow. Bracts, sepals, petals and apices of stamens are bright red. Local name: Palo de cruz (spanish). Information from a worker at the station. Additional material (flowers in alcohol, seedlings) in AAU. |
