| Field notes | C. 500 hectares is dominated by this species. Tree 15-20 m high, diameter 50-70 cm. Leaves are modular (clustered few to 10 leaves together), in a distichous phyllotaxy.10-13 pairs of leaflets per leaf, stipules are filamentous and early caducous. The inflorescences are terminally inserted, to 25 cm in diameter. Bracteoles, sepals, petals, apices of stamens, and anthers are bright red. Nectar is secreted from the bottom of the hypanthium. Additional material (flowers in alcohol, pods, wood, seedlings) in AAU. Local name: Clavellín, Flor de Mayo (information from the owner of finca Las Crusitas). |
