Field notes Tree 15 m, diameter 55 cm. (The tree was found in a cacao plantation, functioning as shadow maker, and 10-20 trees of the same species were seen around). The wood has white sap and black heart. The leaves are modular and in a distichous phyllotaxy, 11-15 pairs of leaflets per leaf. The inflorescences are terminally inserted, to 25 cm in diameter. Sepals, petals, and apices of stamens, and anthers are bright red. Local name: Flor de Mayo (information from Jorge Cabeza and his wife). Use: The wood is very hard and is used for timber, house construction, etc. Additional material (wood, pod, flowers in alcohol) in AAU.
