| Field notes | Cultivated tree, 10 m tall; branches hanging. Leaves are clustered at apices of young branches; 15-16 leaflets/ leaf; stipules are caducous. The inflore- scence is ball-shaped, 18 cm in diameter, 98 flowers/inflorescence; bracts, bracteoles, sepals, and petals are bright red; stamens are white at base and red at apex. Nectar is secreted from unstructural nectaries at the bottom of the hypanthium. Local name: Clavellíno (information from Ornando Aramillo). Additional material (flowers in alcohol) in AAU. |
