Field notes Solitary palmtree with procumbent stem of which app. 200 cm is above the ground. Number of leaves 13 transition between leaf sheath and petiole gradual and inconspicuous; exposed part of petiolar region app. 45 cm long, green adaxiaily, grayish brown abaxially to 5-10 cm below, lowermost pinna the distalmost portion being green; semiterete to convex-concave in cross section with more or less conspicuous median ridge an flattened abaxial side; rachis 376 to 510 cm long., the first 160 to 296 cm flattened above, narrowing gradually into a rounded ridge; pinnae 2 X, 82 to 2 X 96, the central ones largest from 72 X 4.5 cm to -78 X 47 cm. Female infructescences 21: Closely aggregated below crown; peduncle 25 cm long, cross section flattened, 3 X1.5 cm at insertion of the sheathing bract, 2.7 5.2 cm Just below insertion of lowermost fruits, black and shiny, like covered by lacquer, sheathing bracts 2, deciduous, the distalmost one partly desintegrated and split in fibrous mesh. Fruits from 4 to 8 pr infructescence, of all sizes, tire shaped max diam. 13 cm, spines, relatively small to I cm at the most Seeds also of varying size, the biggest ones to 6 cm long, shape variable but usually with two flattened sides and an edge. Female inflorescence-3'(aborted., collected on fruiting individual nearby): prophyll 26.5 cm long, 5.4 cm wide centrally, splitting adaxially, strongly compressed with sharp edges marginally, brown, woody to coriaceous, with longitudinal splits, sheathing bract inserted e 15 cm above the base, 20 cm long, gray woody and fibrous. apically with edges marginaIly. Female flowers with up to 16 cm log tepals, twisted apically pistil 0.8 cm tall and 1 cm wide; style 11.5 cm long, with 5-6 stigmas., being app. 6 cm long and curled
