| Field notes | Solitary, ca. 20 m tall palm tree, DBH 55 cm, fruiting. Leaf base 125 cm long, green, with few fibres along split; leaf blade bipinnate, rachis 340 cm long, glabrous green, number of second order leaf rachillae 2 X 18, lower most one 95 cm long, with 25 leaflets, middle one 115 cm long, with 23 leaflets and apical one 50 cm long, with 10 leaflets. NB!, leaves included in this collection were sampled from a nearby, sterile individual with ca. 5 m tall stem: leaf base about 100 cm long; tubular for 30 cm, resolved in in fibrous mesh along split; leaf petiole 10-20 long; leaf blade bipinnate, 220 cm long and 170 cm across, number of second order leaf rachillae 17-20, each with up to 2 X 22-25 leaflets, basal leaflets held in and erect position relative to leaf plane. Infructescence with green fruits, peduncle ca. 60 cm long, rachis glabrous, green with black spots, with about 190 fruit bearing rachillae, the lower most ones ca.125 cm long with ca.70 fruits, the middle ones ca.134 cm long with ca. 54 fruits and the apical ones ca. 100 cm long with ca. 42 fruits. Fruits green, 1.4 cm in diam, 2 seeded, endosperm with orange, 2-3 mm deep rumination, endosperm fleshy, white. |
