Field notes Solitary palmtree app. 12 m tall; trunk 950 cm from base to crownshaft, yellow tinged green to green apically, diam. at breast height 8 cm, diam. below crownshaft 6 cm; leafscars conspicous to the base, to 1.5 cm wide; internodal lenght basally 18 cm to 3 cm apically. One juvenile spear shaped leaf; leaves 6; transition from leafsheath to petiole gradual, the two of them being together 113 cm long; sheathing part encircling for basalmost 70 cm forming a green crownshaft, with black, chartaceous margin towards the petiolar region; petiolar region strongly convex-concave in cross section, widest diam. just below lowermost pinnae 2 cm; rachis 148 cm long, green, furrowed, glabrous flattened and grooved above at very proximal and narrowing quickly into a sharp ridge being conspicous at 8 cm from the base; pinnae 2 x 27 (+1), curving, regularly distributed, opposite to alternate, distally held in one plane (180), basally pointing above this plane forming a V (<180), insertion on rachis, venation yellow and conspicous, longest pinna 71 x 5.5 cm. Number of persistent old infructescences 25, two inflorescences at anthesis, three buds; number of buds or inflorescences at each node 8, the peduncles of one group basally adnate; Inflorescence at anthesis: peduncle 33 cm long, bright cream, rounded in cross section and o.9 cm in diam.; prophyll persistent, 20.5 cm long, brown, chartaceous, splitting abaxially, the basalmost 9.5 cm encircling; 1st sheathing bract persistent, 32 cm long, inserted 5.5 cm above prophyll, brown chartaceous, splitting abaxially, encircling for 16 cm; 2nd sheathing bract persistent, 30 cm long, chartaceous, pale brown, inserted 5.5 cm above 1st sheathing bract, encircling for 6 cm; 3rd sheathing bract, persistent, inserted 4.5 cm above 2nd sheathing bract, 25 cm long, splitting abaxilally to the base, pale green and leaf-like at anthesis; 4th sheathing bract deciduos, inserted 4.5 cm above 3rd sheathing bract, green, leaf-like at anthesis, 17 cm long, ruptured basally by developing inflorescence and covering this like a hood at early anthesis; rachis 23 cm long, number of rachillae 46, rachis and rachillae bright cream, basal rachillae longest to 7 cm long. Flowers at male anthesis.
