Field notes Caespitose with four trunks, tallest one app. 9 m, collected and here described: trunk 670 cm long from base to crownshaft, smooth, covered by gray crustaceous lichens basally, reddish brown below crownshaft, diam. at breast height 7 cm, diam. below crownshaft 4 cm; leafscars conspicuous to the base, to 1.5 cm wide; internodal lenght 11 cm basally to 7 cm apically. One juvenile spear shaped leaf; leaves 5; leafsheath 63 cm long, basal 42 cm encircling, and forming a crownshaft, apically split in fibrous mesh; crownshaft glabrous and red tinged beige; petiole 2.5 cm long, yellowish green, 2 cm in widest diam., cross section semiterete; rachis 150 cm long, yellowish green below to reddish tinged green above, proximally flattened above, narrowing gradually into a sharp ridge being conspicuous at 68 cm from the base, twisted app. 90° from base to apex; pinnae 2 x 38 (+1), regularly inserted, alternate, insertion, largest one 50 x 4 cm. Inflorescence: bud inserted at 2. node followed by two inflorescences at 3. and 4. nodes; prophyll and sheathing bract deciduous, the following description based an those of the bud: prophyll 43 cm long, basalmost 26 cm encircling, largest circumference 11 cm, glabrous, green; unsplit sheathing bract 64 cm long and apically pointed, green; inflorescence in female anthesis: peduncle green basally to yellow apically, 9 cm long, basally encircling app. 4/5 of stem, cross section elliptic, widest diam. below lowermost rachillae 1.9 cm, with two highly conspicuous, 4 mm wide scars from prophyll and sheathing bract, two sterile bract present distally, to 6 cm long and 2.5 cm broad, brown , chartaceous; rachis 18 cm long, bright cream; rachillae 29, bright cream and wilted apically, each subtended by deltoid bract decreasing in size towards the apex, central rachillae longest to 45 cm long; with female flowers.
