Field notes Solitary palmtree app. 6 m tall; diam. at breast heigth 12 cm, diam. below lowermost leaf 9.5 cm; trunk 430 cm from base to lowermost leaf, leafscars conspicuous, 1-4 cm broad, green, number of nodes 38, internodal length basally 23 cm, leafscars nearly confluent apically. Two juvenile spear shaped leaves, number of leaves 6, not including and 3 old leaves; leafsheaths first encircling, later splitting to the base, app. 65 cm long, the transition between sheath and petiolar region being ill-defined, green basally to blackish green with white dew from waxy covering, margin brown and chartaceous the distalmost part splitting up; petiole app. 25 cm long, 4 cm wide basally to 3 cm wide just below lower- most pinnae, green with sparse grayish brown feltation api- cally, semiterete in cross section with a median ridge above on the flattened surface, twisted app. 10°, rachis 96 cm long, green with sparse grayish brown feltation, proximally flattened above, narrowing gradually into a sharp ridge being conspicuous at 40-45 cm from the base; pinnae inserted in groups of 10 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 7 + 6 + l0 + 10 + 7 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 ( one side), all distal pinnae of each group inserted in one, plane, the proximal pinnae pointing up to 60° above this pla-ne; lamina shiny, dark green above, with conspicuous yellow and brown lepidote midnerve, below white from waxy cover-ing, insertion on rachis horseshoe shaped, twisted, thus giving the leaves a bushy and somewhat crispate appearran- ce, margin rolling in when leaves are dried maybe as protec- tion against waterstress, largest pinna 50 X 2.5 cm. One infructescence: interfoliar in axial of oldest leaf; peduncle 109 cm long, oval in cross section, 3.3 cm wide basally to 2 cm wide below lowermost rachilla, exposed parts green, with brown feltation in patches; prophyll 26 cm long, brown splitting to the base adaxially and app. 6.5 cm down abaxial-ly; 1st. sheathing bract 47 cm long, brown, chartaceous, split 17 cm down from apex in left side as viewed adaxially, 2nd sheathing bract 85 cm long, split 57 cm down adaxially, brown, chartaceous; 3rd sheathing bract l08 cm long, split 65 cm down adaxially, brown, chartaceous; 4th and 5th 7 sheathing bract both split adaxially, brown and chartaceous, apically desintegrated; small non-sheathing bract present 8-9 cm below lowermost rachilla, deltoid, 1.5 cm long, insertion shaped; rachis 52 cm long, green, glabrous; number of sidebranches 42, number of apical rachillae 12, all lateral branches and rachillae green, longest sidebranch 25 crn long with five 2nd order lateral branches and 13 apical rachillae; rachillae zig-zag i ng, up to 5 cm long and 0.2 cm thick, number of scars from flowers on one rachillae 10; one fruit pr. rachillae, green, verrugose, 1.8 cm in diam, with persistent calyx.
