Field notes Solitary palm tree ca 7 m tall, stem with few adventitous roots basically, basal 1.5 m of stem with deep longitudinal splits, DBH 10.5 cm, diam. below crownshaft 6 cm, beige to brown roughened by numerous longitudinal flecks. leaf scars only visible on upper most 2 m of stem. leaf scars 1 - 4 cm broad. Internodes to 13 cm basically increasingly shorter towards the apex, and ultimately black. Stem cut easily. Number of leaves 8 plus one juvenile. Leafsheaths 1.32 m long, sheating except for distal most 24 cm, thus forming a crown shaft. Crownshaft blakish-green, margin of splittet parts. Brown and charfaceous. Petiole 20 - 25 cm long, convex - concave in c. s., 2.7 cm broad at base to 2.4 cm broad below lowermost pinnae, green, glabrous. Rachis 2.74 m long, glabrous and green, flattened above proximal 125 cm, then with sharp edge. Number of pinnae 2 x 68 plus one juvenile, pendent especially distal most 2/3, regularly distributed except for minor displacement making pinnae opposite in some parts alternate in others. Longest pinnae 82 cm long, 2.7 cm broad, midnerve prominent and yellow above, insertion to rachis oblique L- shaped. Apex cuspidate, with fish - hook not persistent. Inflorescence 1, inserted at 1. node below crownshaft, erect, angel to stem ca 15 °. Peduncle encircling 2/3 of stem, green from base to scar from prophyll. Prophyll 75 cm long, convex - concave, longest diam 7.8 cm first green, later brown and chartaceous. Peduncle light green between scar from prophyll and scar from first sheathing bract. 1. sheathing bract deciduous, ca. 90 cm long in bud. Few sterile bracts present below lower most rachillae, ca deltoid and ca 1 cm long. From unsortion of 1. sheathing bract peduncle yellow. Diam. of rachis below lowermost rachillae 2.5 cm. Rachis 20 cm long, bright white from pulveraceous covering. Number of rachillae 29. Rachillae to 66 cm, all of nearly same lenght, 0.5 - 0.6 cm broad, bright white from pulveraceous covering. Flowers red and in triads of one female ond two male. Inflorescence at male anthesis. 1 bud present inside crownshaft covered by leaf sheath of lowermost leaf. Flowerbuds pickled. Duplicates in QCA, MECN.
