| Field notes | Solitary palmtree, ca 17 m tall; trunk 1460 cm from base to crownshaft, smooth, covered by gray and light gray crusta- ceous lichens, brown below crownshaft, witn conspicuous 2-3 cm broad leafscars, diam. at breast height 25 cm, inter- nodal length 10-15 cm decreasing towards the distal parts. Number of leaves 17, five juvenile spear shaped leaves petiole and leafsheath 112 cm long, the transition between them being ill-defined, sheath not encircling, marginally with a app. 0.5 cm brown chartaceous rim; petiole concave- convex; rachis 155 cm long; both sheath, petiole and rachis green, whitish dewy from waxy covering; pinnae 2 X 77, regularly distributed; first flattened dorso-ventrally, then narrowing gradually to laterally flattened centrally, rachis first flattened dorso-ventrally, then narrowing gradually to triangular in cross section at 72 crn above the bsse, twis- ting app. 35° from this point to the apex; insertion of pin- nae on rachis horseshoe shaped , pinnae dark green and shiny above, below whitish dewy from waxy covering and with white midnerve, central pinnae largest to 55 X 3 5 cm. Inflorescence 5, inerfoliar, newly appeared from bud; peduncle yellow, 6 cm long, oval in cross section, widest diam. 2.5 cm; prophyll 30 cm long, bicarinate, coriaceous, cream to beige, splitting ab- and adaxially; number of sheathing bracts 6: 1st sheathing bract 44 cm long splitting laterally in the right side as viewed from adaxial side, 2nd sheathing bract 74 cm long splitting laterally in opposite side relative to the previous sheathing bract; 3rd sheathing bract 104 cm long, .splitting adaxially; 4th and 5tth ,sheathing bract 133 cm long and both .splitting . adaxially. 1st to 4th sheathing bracts chartaceous, basally yellow exposed parts brown: 5th bract green and only brown apically; 6th bract membranous -; 1 m long, not split yet, green abaxially brown: rachis 75 crn long, with numerous floral branches, each bearing max . 7 rachillae , the number of rachillae pr branch decreasing in distal direction: rachillae to 10 cm long; female flowers with gre en pistils 2-3 mm in diam Duplicates QCA ( 4), MECN (4), COL (4) |
