| Field notes | Solitary palmtree with 67 cm high and app. 1 m wide cone of stiltroots basally; stiltroots to 4.5 cm in diam., brown, furrowed and covered with numerous prickly lenticels up to app. 1 cm long; trunk 9 m tall from base to crownshaft, smooth, covered by grey and light grey crustaceous lichens, diam. at breast height 16 cm, diam. below crownshaft 11 cm, leafscars barely visible, maximum internodal length app. 15 cm. Leaves 6, one spear shaped juvenile leaf; leaf sheath 82 cm long, the proximal 54 cm encircling the stem and forming a crownshaft; petiole absent to about 5 cm long, oval in cross section, widest diam. 3.5 cm; rachis 216 cm long, green with a projecting median ridge above; pinnae 2 x 35, central ones largest 96 x 10 cm, basalmost ones 8 x 0.8 cm, upper surface green and shiny, venation below yellow, insertion obliquely L-shaped. Buds inserted in groups of 5 at 1st and 2nd node, the central buds of each group being the biggest; Male inflorescences: at anthesis, inserted at 3rd node below crownshaft; peduncle 19 cm long; prophyll 6 cm long, brown and woody; 1st and 2nd sheathing bract, 6-8 cm long, brown to green with brown feltation apically, 3rd, 4th and 5th sheathing bract, hood shaped, roofing inflorescence, to 21 cm long, with dense brown and stiff tomentum on the outside, inside beige and glabrous; rachillae 6, to 24 cm long with numerous flowers.
