Field notes Solitary palmtree with cone of 15-20 brown and furrowed stiltroots; stiltroots app. 3.5 cm in diam. and covered with rounded lenticels; diam. of trunk at DBH 18 cm, diam. below crownshaft 12 cm; trunk 705 cm from base to below crownshaft, smooth to roughened distally from leafscars. Leafbases sheathing and forming a 98 cm long, smooth and bluish green crownshaft, bulky basally from developing buds inside, widest diam. 18 cm, most narrow and app. 13 cm in diam. distally; petiolar region absent, diam. of rachis at lowermost pinnae 4.5 cm; rachis 295 cm long, green, glabrous below, with ferrugenous tomentum above; no. of pinnae 2 x 37 regularly distributed, alternate basally to opposite distally; central pinnae largest, 112 x 11 cm, basal pinnae 24 x 3.5 cm, apical pinnae 28 x 2.6 cm; pinnae inserted in one plane, linear or gradually widening towards the apex, apically erose, insertion on rachis oblique L-shaped: , so that the pinnae point in distal direction; pinnae above green and shiny, below with yellow venation. Two infructescences, a solitary bud and two rows of five buds present at nodes immediately below crownshaft; usually only one bud develops into a mature inflorescence. Infructescence: Peduncle 25 cm long, oval to circular in cross section, 5 cm in widest diam.; prophyll 13 cm long and 7.5 cm in widest diam., green with brown tomentum, apically cuspidate, splitting apically; no. of sheathing bracts 6, all persistent, the biggest ones roofing the inflorescence to 28 cm long, outside with dense brown tomentum and inside brown and shiny; rachillae 7, to 24 cm long; fruits closely inserted, giving rachillae appearance of app. 11 cm thick sausages; fruits obpyramidal with five sides, the exposed surface app. 3 cm in diam. and with dense stiff and brown tomentum; endocarp like whitish jelly.
