Field notes Solitary palmtree with a 1 m tall and 1 m wide cone of numerous stiltroots at base; stiltroots app. 5 cm in diam.; trunk 1070 cm from base to crownshaft, diam. at breast height: 19 cm, diam. below crownshaft: 9 cm. Leaves 5; leafbases sheathing, forming a app. 45 cm long, green, crownshaft; leaf petiole 25 cm long, widest diam. 4 cm; rachis 198 cm long; no. of rachillae 2 x 17, each pinnae split in a fan-like group of 8-13 segments disposed obliquely relative to the main plane of the lamina; pinnae segments linear or gradually widening towards the apex and somewhat spatulate, biggest ones 77 x 14 cm, apically erose. One inflorescence past anthesis, one inflorescence at male anthesis, one inflorescence at female anthesis and five buds present; inflorescences with one prophyll and six sheathing floral bracts; peduncle 21 cm long, curved and app. 5 cm in diam.; rachis 30 cm long narrowing to 1.5 cm in diam.; rachillae 20-30, the basal ones bifurcated proximally, 80 cm long and 0.8 cm in diam. Common name: Pambil (Spanish).
