| Field notes | Caespitose, growing in groups of several stems. Adventitous roots few, reaching 27 cm, up to 0.8 cm wide. Stem up to 2.5 m, 3-3.5 cm wide, internodes 12.5 cm (basally) to ca. 3 cm (distally) long, dark brown, smooth. Leaves ca. 8, leafbase 20 cm long, 10 cm wide, sheathing for the first 4 cm, yellow basally to green distally; petiole 60 cm long, 1 cm wide, green; rachis 96 cm long, green. Blade 125 cm long, 86 cm wide, flat; pinnae 2 x 13, insertion reduplicate, distribution unevenly but in one plane, 33 cm long (basally), 50 cm (in the middle) to 40 cm long (apically), width varying especially on younger leaves (note: older leaves tend to have +/- evenly distributed pinnae of equal width). Inflorescence infrafoliar; peduncular bracts 6, remnants of the first at the base, the other 5 of different lengt from 10-50 cm; sheathing, linear, green to borwn apically; peduncle 40 cm long, 1.2 cm wide, green, smooth; rachis 15 cm long, green, smooth; rachillae 34, 38 cm (basally) to 22 cm (distally) long. Flowers born in rows on the rachillae. Fruits 2.5 cm long, 1.6 cm wide, elliptical with asymetrical base, bright yellow. Uses: Birds eating the fruits, can be caught on the palm.
