| Field notes | Solitary tree, 7.5 cm tall. Old leafbases persistent to ca. 1 m above the ground. Trunk without spines, leafscars sculpturing the stem in a caracteristic pattern. Distance between leafscars uneven. Up to 5 cm. Leaves ca. 25, diam.: 5.8 x 1.7 m, leafbase light grey with a dense network of woolly fibres. No. of pinnae: 2 x 121, insertion on rachis reduplicate. Pinnae more or less aggregated in groups basally. Pinnae dark green dorsally, lighter green ventrally. Plants dioecious. Both male and female inflorescences collected. Male infloresce pendent to 1.5 m, yellow from protruding anthers. Female inflorescence globose to 40 cm in diam. |
