Field notes Solitary tree, 9 m tall. Numerous stilt-roots, smooth, light brown, few prickly lenticels, 1 cm thick, to 40 cm long, branching several times. Stem smooth, green. Distance between leaf-scars basally 20 cm, distally 10 cm. Crown shaft 90 cm, smooth and green. A sword is present. Leaves six, 2.1 x 1.2 m. Petiole 30 cm long, dark green, winged from attenuated leaf-sheath. Pinnae 2 x 27, reduplicate, in one plane, dark green dorsally, light green ventrally, every second vein transparant. Inflorescences infrafoliar, borne at the 3 upper nodes, 7-8 at each node. One prophyll and 4 persistent bracts. Bracts up to 15 cm, smooth and apically acuminate. Prophyll persistent, 8 x 4 cm. Peduncle flattened, smooth and bright yellow, 35 x 1 cm. Rachis 20 cm long. First order branches, spicate and pendent. Only male flowers observed. No fruits.
