| Field notes | Solitary tree, 5 m tall, dbh. 20 cm. Base of trunk cone-shaped. Stem smooth, brown. Distance between leaf-scars 5-10 cm. Leaves 22, 4 x 1 m. Sheath with netlike fibres. Pinnae 2 x 77, reduplicate, in one plan, glossy dark green dorsally, pale green ventrally, midnerve yellow dorsally. Inflorescence interfoliar. Bract smooth, green outside, yellowish inside, spatular, woody, sulcate, 60 cm long. Peduncle 20 cm, greenish yellow with ferruginous scaly hairs. Rachis 30-35 cm, otherwise as peduncle. 1st order rachillae, spicate, undulating, to 25 cm. Pistillate flowers few, inserted basally on 1st order rachillae. Use: For making rope, the fruits are eaten. |
