| Field notes | Solitary tree, 5 m tall. Dbh. 6 cm. Stem heavily covered with epiphytes and lianas. Stiltroots up to 1.3 m, brown to lightbrown, sparsely covered with prickly lenticels, branching several times, the stem is not touching the ground. Trunk with heavy spines in clusters, distance between leafscars: 3 cm. A short sword is present: Leaves6, 2.8 x 1.2 m. Petiole 50 cm long, covered with spines in clusters of 1-5, dist. between clusters: ca. 5 cm. No. of pinnae: 2 x 36. This specimen not fertile. Use: The palmito is eaten. |
