Field notes Solitary tree, 25 m tall, DBH 15 cm. Stem smooth, white and black patterned from lichens, covered with epiphytes. Crown shaft 1 m, green. A sword is present. Leaves four, 2.3 X 1.6 m, broadly elliptic. Petiole 10 cm long. Pinnae 2 X 45, 80 X 6-8 cm, reduplicate. Inflorescence infrafoliar, borne immediately below the crown shaft. The distal part of prophyll deciduous. Sterile bracts 3, splitting up longitudinally. Mature inflorescence with staminate flowers, immature inflorescence with pistillate flowers, 1. order rachillae spicate. Staminate flowers with sweet banana-like smell. Duplicates: AAU, QCA, QCNE.
