Field notes Solitary tree, 15 m tall, DBH: 12 cm. Stillt- roots 30 -35, dark brown, abundance of prickly lenticels. Stem smooth, white and greyish patterned from lichens. Distance between leaf-scars: 12 cm. Crownshaft 1.6 m, green. Sword present. Leaves four, 3.3 -3.5 m long, elliptic. Petiole glabrous, 5 cm. Rachis brownish pubescent. Pinnae 2 x 54, pendent, reduplicate. Inflorescence infrafoliar, born immediately under the crownshaft. Prophyll 10 cm long, persistent. Sterile bracts 5, deciduous. Peduncle ca. 20 cm long. Inflorescence with 4 colbate rachillae, 30 x 6 cm. Fruits green with dense ferruginous pubescence. Use: For housebuilding, fruits eaten by squirrels, according to Adam (coaiquer). Name: Gualte bola (Spanish).
