| Field notes | Gualte-de-parar (Spanish). Solitary tree, 32 m, DBH 20 cm. Stem smooth, dark and light grey patterned from lichens. Distance between leaf-scars 12-15 cm. Crown shaft 1 m, sulcate, grey with a red tinge. Leaves 5, pinnate and broadly ellipsoid, 2.5 x 1.5 m. Petiole 20 cm, grey. Rachis grey. Pinnae 40-45, born at different angles, in the process of splitting longitudinally, reduplicate. Inflorescences infrafoliar, borne 10 cm below the crown shaft, densely aggregated around the stem. Prophyll deciduous. Bracts 3, the older ones with persistent bases. Inflorescence with only spicate 1. order rachillae. Pistillate flowers and fruits observed. Use: For house building material (posts, roofing), according to Adam (Coaiquer). Duplicates: AAU, QCA, QCNE. |
