Identification qualifier  
Field notes Solitary palm tree, with no adventitious roots. Stem 13 m tall, not armed, diam. basally 9 cm, below crown 7 cm. Number of leaves 10, spreading and reflexed. Crownshaft 1 m, about 10 cm in diam. Leaf sheath 1.25 m, creme to red, with fibrous margin along split. Petiole 0.5 m long, semiterete i CS. Blade 3 m long, 1.5 m in width. Number of pinnae 2 X 60, dark green above (adaxially) and light green below (abaxially). Inflorescence infrafoliar, paniculate with spirally arranged rachillae. Peduncle 0.5 m, creme coloured. Staminate flowers sessile, white, without distinct smell. Notes:Ants were observed in all parts of the palm. Nom. Vern.: dja-pin-sa-chi (Cayapa) Use: Palmheart is eaten. Leaves used for thatching.
