| Field notes | Caespitose with two main stems and one sucker. Flowering stem 9.5 m tall and 15 cm in diam. Internodes 30-40 cm long basally to 55 cm long distally, greenish but covered by grey crustaceous lichens. Leaf sheath breaking up in black fibres. Petiole 60 cm long, glaucous green. Rachis 215 cm long, twisted with some leaflets held in upright (vertical) position, number of leaflets 2x59, regularly distributed in one plane, except at the base where the pinnae from a V (basal pinnae of juvenile leaves irregularly distributed and pointing in different directions) whitish underneath. Inflorescences in various stages of development: sequence of flowering scattered, from top: 1'st inflorescence bearing node with one infl. at male anthesis, 2'nd inflorescence bearing node with one infl. past anthesis, 3'rd inflorescence bearing node with one infl. with flowers in male bud and one infl. past anthesis, 4'th inflorescence bearing node with one infl. in bud contained inside sheathing bracts ('bull horn') and one infl. with flowers in male bud, 5'th inflorescence bearing node with basal remnants of infls. only, 6'th inflorescence bearing node with one infl. with flowers in male bud, 7'th inflorescence bearing node with one infl. past anthsis, 8'th inflorescence bearing node with one infl. at male anthesis. Another gamet close by observed with greenish fruits at the top but collection was avoided due to wasps. Additional material: pickled flowers (AAU). Duplicates at: AAU, LAE, BRI, K, CANB. |
