| Field notes | Herb, 4 m. Lamina 2 m long. Peduncle and floral bracts bright red. Inflorescence ca. 1 m. long. Nom. vern.: "Awa-ambi/.-chi" (Cayapa) Use: For sucking the blood from the patient. Preparation: One of the plants of the shaman. The pre- mature leaf is taken out, unrolled and cut in two. One half is placed on the skin of the patient and through this, the shaman suck the blood with the the remaining leaf rolled as a straw. |
