| Field notes | Clustering rattan forming dense thicket around giant emergent tree. Stem diameter without sheaths 1.6 cm, with sheaths 2.5 cm. Distance between leaf axils about 20 cm. Petiole about 12 cm long. Blade about 200 cm long, with 2 X 40 pinnae, regularly distributed. Cirrus about 100 cm long. Cane used and considered of medium quality. Thai name is "Wai Daeng" or red rattan which alludes to the reddish-brown color of the cane when processed. |
