| Field notes | Solitary understory palm. Stem 1.5 m high, about 10 cm in diameter. Old leaf bases, black, protruding and spinelike, increasing in legth to 25 cm below marcescent leaves. Leaves 10. Petiole ca. 2.4 m long, with black spines. Maximum leafspan 1.5 m. Outline rounded with center slightly shrewd. Segments 14, varying in width from 9 cm (basally) to 70 cm (triangular mid segment). Old infructescences 3, without fruits. Peduncle about 1.5 m. Rachis 1.9 m long. Rachilla bearing nodes 6, about 0.45 m apart. Rachillae unbranched, spicate to about 60 cm long |
