Field notes Solitary palm tree, about 12 m tall, diam. at base 9 cm, upper nodes green, 5-6 cm long, leaf scars greenish brown, 2-3 cm wide. Number of leaves in crown 7 plus one spear leaf. Leaf sheath 90 cm long, tubular forming a crownshaft, with stripes of purplish brown tomentum, green distally. Petiole 5-15 cm long. Rachis 285 cm long. Pinnae 2 x 40. Two infructescences, one almost mature, one immature. Immature infructescence: peduncle 8-10 cm, 5-6 cm wide above the scar from the PD bract. PD bract inserted 2-3 cm above prophyll, texture fleshy, greenish yellow. Rachis 50-52 cm long, branched to 1'st order, number of rachillae 28, rachillae length more or less the same throughout 26-32 cm. Rachis and rachillae yellowish and glabrous. Fruits changing colour through maturation from yellow to pinkish yellow (stage collected), to red and, ultimately to black. Nom. vern.: "bril" (Bewani talkplace).
