| Field notes | In front of park office. Solitary. Trunk 5-6 m from base to crownshaft. Sheath tubular almost entirely, forming a 60 cm long crownshaft, green and smooth proximally to beige and spiny distally. Petiole 15-25 cm long, abaxially with dense covering of fine spines forming a V-shaped boundary line towards the green, smooth abaxial face of rachis, adaxially with rough spines. Rachis 3.20-3.40 m, covered with caducous feltation. Pinnae 2 X 82, alternate to opposite distally. Infructescence with 12-14 cm long peduncle, this with dense covering of spines decreasing in size towards the rachillae bearing parts. Rachis 5-8 cm long, green smooth, rachillae ca. 20, almost equal in length 100-120 cm, fruits olive green to black, rachillae branching 2 or 3 times basally. |
