Field notes Acaulescent. Crown with 10-12 leaves. Transition from leaf base to petiole indistinct, the sheathing part about 15-17 cm long, yellowish beige to light green distally, 6-7 cm wide at the base, splitting along margin in narrow strip of fibres, glabrous, petiolar part about 60 cm long, with v-shaped furrow basally to shallowly furrowed distally, deeply rounded below, glabrous, green except for the new leaves with red tinged petioles. Rachis 75 cm long, adaxially with two flat faces meeting in a sharp carina, abaxially rounded. Number of leaflets 2 x 24, equally distributed, subopposite to opposite, in one plane except basally departing above this at an approx. angle of 20 degrees. One inflorescence. Prophyll chartaceous, splitting irregularly at the apex, more or less desintegrated. Peduncular (PD) bract 1, inserted 22 cm above the prophyll, 28 cm long, green, basal 2.5 cm long persistent otherwise deciduous (PD bract included, collected from the ground). Peduncle 80 cm long, lens shaped in CS with reddish tinge below insertion of PD bract, above green with patchy brown indumentum. Rachis about 20 cm long, as upper part of peduncle, but isodiametrical and somewhat edged in CS. Inflorescence branched to 2. order. Flowers in bud, these being greenish yellow.
