Field notes Solitary palm, 18 m tall, diam. 18 cm at breast height, 13 cm below crown. Distance between nodes basally 12 cm, at the middle 20 cm, and distally below the crown 2 cm, leaf scars 1.5 - 2 cm wide. Stem covered by grey crustaceous lichens. Crown of 9 leaves plus one spear leaf. Leaf base about 110 cm long tubular forming a crownshaft, green with patches of grey feltation which is easy to rub off, split for 20-30 cm, chartaceous not resolving into fibres along margin. Leaf apetiolate or with short petiole to max. 20 cm long. Rachis graciously bending about 4.5 m long, 5 cm wide at proximal end, rounded throughout on abaxial side, basally shallowly furrowed on the adaxial side for about 50 cm, then with flattened face, eventually narrowing into a carina. Number of leaflets 2 x 55, rigid, held in a horizontal position. Individual collected with 2 infructescences and one immature inflorescence. Peduncle 13 cm long, 9-10 cm wide at the base, green with ferrugeneous tomentum. Prophyll and peduncular bracts deciduous leaving two scars at the base separated by 1.5 - 2.5 cm. Peduncle with further one deltoid bract 3 cm long, and 6 cm wide, brown, chartaceous. Rachis 95 cm long, branched to 3'rd orders. Number of 1'st order branches 30, the basalmost one 85-90 cm long, with 22 2'nd order branches, the basalmost 2'nd order branch 21 cm long, carrying 10 rachillae, these about 20 cm long throughout. Infructescence of more or less the same overall dimensions as inflorescence described above, colour yellowish. Fruits unripe, green, 5 x 3.5 cm. Yellow at maturity. Endosperm with 5 grooves.
