Field notes Solitary tree or growing in pairs where both seeds in one fruit have germinated, 29 m tall, diam. at breast height 29 cm. Nodes 17 cm long basally, 3.5 - 4 cm long distally below crown, leaf scars about 1 cm wide basally to 0.5 cm distally and blackish. Crown of 15-17 leaves plus one spear leaf. Leaf bases 112-116 cm long, tubular, yellow, covered by dense brown indumentum, which can easily be removed by scraping, texture chartaceous, splitting somewhat irregularly opposite to petiole and along the sides, rim chartaceous, dark greenish to black, breaking. Petiole lacking or short. Rachis 373 cm long, 6-7 cm wide basally, almost straight, adaxial side shallowly furrowed at proximal end, higher up with 2 flat faces meeting in a carinae, this turning more pronounced and sharper from somewhat about the mid part and up. Pinnae 2 x 119, graciously pendent. Individual collected with 2 infructescences and 2 inflorescence buds contained within the crownshaft. Immature infructescence covered by sparse ferrugenuous tomentum distributed in patches, all parts orange inside. Peduncle 10 cm long, 7 cm wide at basis, covered by dense ferrugenuous tomentum, distance between scars from prophyll and peduncular bract 1.5 cm, prophyll 58 cm long with short rounded tip (in bud). Rachis 69 cm long, infructescence branched to 3'rd order. Number of 1'st order branches 20, the lowermost one 49 cm long and carrying12 2'nd order branches, the lowermost 2'nd order branch 17 cm long with 4 rachillae, length of rachillae about 75 cm long throughout the infructescence. Rachillae packed in sinuous pattern in bud.
