Field notes Solitary palm tree, 32 m tall. Basally with cone of proproots, 1 m tall and 120 cm across at the base, individual proproots less than 1 cm in diam. Diameter of stem 25 cm, distance between leaf scars 14 cm basally, about 1 cm distally. Leaf sheath 115 cm long, tubular, forming a crown shaft, green, covered by dense greyish brown feltation. Peduncle short to lacking. Rachis 359 cm long, at the basis 6 cm wide, abaxially rounded throughout, adaxially shallowly furrowed at proximal end, further up with a flat face, this eventually narrowing into a sharp carina. Number of pinnae 2 x 111, pendent, somewhat sticky underneath. Two floral buds contained in crownshaft, both about 70 cm long (= length of prophyll), dark green adaxially, covered by dense greyish brown feltation abaxially, apex green. Infructescences 2: one past maturation and one almost ripe. Peduncle 8-10 cm long, grey, cross section flattened elliptical in outline, 10 cm wide. Rachis 78 cm long, greenish grey, branched to 3'rd order. First order branches 147. Lowermost 1'st order branch 52 cm long, subtended by deltoid bracts to 9 cm long and 4.5 cm wide and carrying 14 2'nd order rachillae, lowermost 2'nd order branch 21 cm long, with 7 3'rd order rachillae approximately of the same length throughout varying from 50 to 70+ cm. Fruits yellow to red.
