Field notes Solitary tree in large gap, 5-6 m tall. Stem diam 8 cm at breast height. Crown of 17-18 leaves plus one spear leaf. Marcescent leaves few, but several persistent petioles to 1 m long and pointing downward. Leaf base split to the base, 8-9 cm wide at point of insertion, desintegrating in brown fibrous mesh, tapering gradually into petiole, this starting approximately 27 cm from base. Base plus petiole 207 cm long. Proximal part of petiole brown and flat adaxially, this zone intergrading upward with distal green part as two stripes, gradually narrowing and running along the elevated carinae, these no longer detectable at 75 cm above leaf insertion. Distal part of petiole green and shallowly furrowed on adaxial side. Blade 140 cm long and 143 cm across. Number of segments 22. (10 + mid + 11). Infloresecnces 2, immature.
