Field notes Very abundant. Growing on calcareous soils slopes in semi open forest on steep hill. Solitary. Stem 16.3 m long. Diameter 16 cm. App. 30 leaves in crown. Leaf scars inconspicuous. Leaf base 45 cm long. Leaf bases resolved in fibrous mesh. Longest petiole 1.11 m, unarmed (young individuals with small spines on proximal 25-30 cm). Blade with ca 60 folds. Basal fold: length 81 cm, short incision 6.5 cm, deep incision 75 cm. Lateral fold: length 100 cm, short incision 7 cm, deep incision 86 cm. Mid segment: length 126 cm short incision 3 cm, deep incision 50. Infructecences 3, with immature fruits. Prophyll 22 cm. Branched in three equally large main branches inside prophyll. Measurements from the central main branch: PD bracts 3. Peduncle 59 cm long. Main axis 124 cm long. Number of lateral branches 10, covered with fine brown-purple hairs on below the branched part. Immature fruits pale green. Mature fruits orange, spherical 2.5 cm in diam. Immature and mature fruits gathered from two gamets. No sign of dioecy. Local name: "Manganau" (Lababia dialect).
