| Field notes | Stem solitary, 10 m tall, 33 cm diam, smooth, gray. Leaves 19, ascending; petiole and sheath 130 cm long, sparsely fibrous on margins, flat adaxially, rounded abaxially; rachis 320 cm long; pinnae 127 per side, regurlarly arranged, opposite to sub-opposite, in one plane. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 40 x 20 cm, becoming very fibrous at apex; rachis to 40 cm long; rachillae to severel hundred with 0-8 pistillate flowers per rachillae (i.e., inflorescence either predominantly staminate or pistillate and staminate). Comon names: Palmiste, Cocorosse. The tree had a bird’s nest in it (oiseau palmiste) and a woodpecker had made holes in several peduncular bracts |
