| Field notes | Inflorescence massive; peduncle 25 cm long, 11.5 cm diam, flattened, brown, with prophyll and peduncular bract scars 4.5 cm apart, and with 5 vestigial bracts; rachis very short, 10 cm or less; rachillae 12, most proximal two bifid, 80 cm long, 3.5 cm diam when fresh; pistillate flowers white, scented, being visited by Trigona bees and various small beetles. Inflorescences protandrous, but a few staminate flowers atapices of rachillae still either open or in bud, i.e. incompletely protandrous |
