| Field notes | Cespitose, stems covered in persistent leaf sheaths. Inflorescence buds exserted through sheaths. Each stem monocarpic, whole plant not. Flowering basipetal. Inflorescence protandrous and direction of staminate anthesis acropetal; staminate flowers developing slowly after exsertion from bracts, then changing from green to pink 2 days before anthesis, then opening very quickly over a two day period. At anthesis the rachillae are pendulous and bunched; petals are pink, anthers yellow, and flowers have a slightly musty scent. Both staminate flowers of a triad open one after another, although very soon so that both appear at anthesis at the same time. |
