| Field notes | Trunk approx 12 m tall, 9 cm diam at base, with 1 cone of black stilt roots. Leaves 5. Crown shaft green, 70 cm long, 8 cm diam. Petiole 11 cm. Rachis 2 m long with 15 pairs pinnae. Apical pinnae entire. Pinnae split into (from base) 1-1-1-1-1-3-4-7-4-3-6-4-6-5-2 segments, the proximal the largest. Inflorescences infrafoliar, 2 in immature fruit, one at staminate anthesis, 2 in bud. Whole bud 102 cm long, 4.8 cm diam, semicircular in outline. A broken bud 116 cm long, peduncle 20 cm long, 3 cm diam, with 27 rachillae, the proximal few bifurcate, sweetly scented. Several other immature buds close together at top of stem. Staminate flowers with brown tufts of hair on calyx. Pistillate flowers in 5 series. Rachillae 5 mm diam |
