| Field notes | Stem solitary, ca 6 m tall, 13 cm diam at base, 13 cm diam at apex, with slight bulge at middle, supported by a 1 m cone of branched stilt roots (stem not continous to ground on other specimens, and stilt roots "open"). Leaves 5; crownshaft 120 cm long, swollen at base, grey-green; 'petiole' 37 cm long; rachis 250 cm long. Inflorescence at or near pistillate anthesis, rachillae and Flowers white-cream Common name 'basanco'. Wood used in construction, like Socratea, i. e. stems split |
