| Field notes | Stems lustered, non-climbing 2 m tall 2.5 cm diameter green with 6 cm long internodes, with new shoots on the stern near the base. Sheaths open with ridges on which are long and short, flat brown spines; ocreas elongate, tubular with pines at the apises splitting to 23 m long; knees absent; flagella absent; petiole 65-70 cm long with groups of long spines; rachis 35-42 cm long with long, straight pines abaxially; pinnae regularly arranged (somewhat irregular in younger plants), 77-98 per side of rachis, the apices asymmetric. Inflorescence erect, to 1 m long, the partial infloresenses spicate, the bracts tattering; on some plants the inflorences shorter, without any reproductive structures but the apex bulbous and forming a new plant.
