| Field notes | Stems clustered, 10 m long, 0.4 cm diameter with sheaths, 0.3 cm diameter without sheats. Sheaths green, with mottled brown tomentum; ocreas 4 cm long, split, fibrous, with long needle-like spines at bases; knees present; flagella 95 cm long; petioles absent; rachis 22 cm long with 5 pinnae per side, the basal pair swept back across the sheath, the apical pair split to the base. Staminate inflorescences with 4 partial inflorescences. Produces a good quality cane for dying. Local name: “may chi” |
