| Field notes | Stem solitary, 15 m tall, 30 cm diam, densely spiny on the internodes. Leaves 12; sheath 1.1 m long; petiole densely covered by flattened and yellowish spines; rachis 4.8 m long; pinnae 160 per side, more or less regularly arranged, but spreading in different planes. Infructescences interfoliar erect; prophyll 1.2 m long; peduncular bract inserted near apex of peduncle; peduncular bract 1.9 m long, densely spiny on outer surface; peduncle 2.3 m long; rachis 1.2 m long with 300 rachillae, rachillae 27-40 cm long.
